Baghaei emphasized that the withdrawal aligns with current security, military, and political circumstances in Syria and its surroundings. His comments followed a press conference by the Russian president, who discussed several issues, including the conflicts in Ukraine and Syria, along with deteriorating relations with the West. The Russian president remarked that while Iran initially sought assistance in Syria, they are now looking for help to exit the country.

In response, Baghaei highlighted the longstanding partnership between Iran and Russia in countering terrorism in Syria, stating that it is not uncommon for different stakeholders to have varying perspectives on events and the roles of various players. He contested recent assertions about Iran's advisory role in Syria prior to the potential collapse of the Damascus regime, claiming that they were based on misinformation.

Baghaei reaffirmed that Iran's presence in Syria was established upon an official invitation from the legitimate Syrian government. He noted that the collaboration between Iran and Syria had effectively thwarted the establishment of ISIS in Syria and Iraq, ultimately preventing the spread of terrorism in the region.

He elaborated that following ISIS's defeat, Iran's military involvement transitioned to an advisory capacity, focused on preventing the group's comeback, combating terrorism, and enhancing Syria’s military capabilities against Israeli threats. He noted that this strategy was validated by the aftermath of the Iranian advisors' exit, during which Israel occupied key areas and targeted essential infrastructure in Syria.

When asked about the number of evacuees from Syria, Baghaei clarified that this group included families of Iranian diplomats, both Iranian and non-Iranian pilgrims, and individuals who had come to aid refugees. He confirmed that they were flown back to Iran on Iranian aircraft through Hmeimim Airport, which was coordinated with Russia as an additional entry point alongside Damascus Airport.

In conclusion, Baghaei reiterated the importance of Iran-Russia relations across various domains, mentioning that discussions between the two nations continue at multiple levels and that they prefer to share insights and expertise through official channels.
