Russian Wagner Group killed in attack by Ai-Qaeda-linked group in Mali

An al-Qaeda-linked group ambushed and killed Wagner Group mercenaries in central Mali, as reported by the Associated Press.

The incident took place on November 21, and a Malian security official confirmed that the mercenaries were targeted while at a checkpoint. The official mentioned that there were fatalities but did not provide a specific count.

The group, Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin (JNIM), took responsibility for the ambush, claiming that six mercenaries were killed. According to Reuters, which cited the monitoring organization SITE Intelligence, at least seven Wagner Group members were killed. A video acquired by Reuters shows the bodies of five men in military uniforms near a vehicle, but the agency was unable to verify the video's authenticity.
